Day 3

Image
22nd June 2022 Generator Hostel, Copenhagen, Denmark Bright and early, my friend and I decided to take the metro and see how fun it would be to sit in the front seat of an unmanned metro train. We took the city ring metro (Red line) from Kongens Nytorv. We got our seats and I took a time-lapse video to share it here! Today our group had to bike to Copenhill and meet with the people on the rooftop for a tour/ presentation/ talk. I was ecstatic to be there as I learned about this project when I was in my undergrad and was thrilled to be in a building designed by Bjarke Ingles (BIG Architects). Copenhill is a waste-to-energy plant topped with a ski slope, hiking trail, and a climbing wall. We had to climb the stairs to reach all the way to the top. The view is breathtakingly beautiful. And I was breathless by the third turn. I was definitely not in my best shape to keep up with the rest of the group. I took my sweet time getting there, enjoying the cool breeze and amazing view. After gett...

Day 2

21st June 2022 Generator Hostel, Copenhagen, Denmark Jet lag hit me hard the next day. I woke up bright-eyed at 3:30. The bright sky didn't really help my situation. My brain was ready to go out and get my day started. My body was still catching up on sleep. Tossing and turning all night, I finally got out around 5:00 to walk along the canal and see the city before the mayhem of the day started. The New Haven or  Nyhavn or new harbor was minutes away from our hostel. I took in the serene and picturesque view that's on most of the Copenhagen postcards and travel souvenirs. Everything was quiet and the city was just waking up. The invisible workers who kept the city clean and tidy were hard at work before the morning rush hour set in and a new wave of tourists took over. It was eery to know that the sun was shining so bright and high at 5:30 in the morning. After breakfast, I met with Nick, Lucy, Giselle, Claressa, and Floris (our tour guide, logistics person, technician, plan...

DAY 1

20th June 2022 Generator Hostel, Copenhagen, Denmark Our kick-off meeting was at 15:30 in the hostel lobby. We were given our bike keys and our official assignment was to follow a local and observe their biking manners and behaviors. Be subtle about it, they said. We were given maps and were asked to locate a park with an airplane symbol in the Nørrebro neighborhood and be there by 18:00 for a pizza dinner. The rush hour had just started and I was caught in it. I followed someone and lost track of them somewhere over a bridge. I picked someone else and followed them to another major intersection. It was hard to keep up! There were a lot of people getting out of work and going home! The crowd just kept getting bigger and bigger! The bike lanes and bike infrastructure were designed so well that I could just follow my person and not worry about getting hit by a car! (Well, other than keeping to the right and letting other people rush past, of course!) It was a pure test of my strength and...
